Thanks Robert!

This site is very useful. http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/3.5.4.2-test/rc2/

I am using 5600, so I should download the item in the download matrix of OPIE and Poodle, right?

I have read through the manual (http://wiki.openzaurus.org/Poodle/Install), but I have not seen how OPIE or Poodle is utilized? In my understanding, OPIE and Poodle should be the GUI tool which are used to perform Linux kernel upgrade, right?

regards,
George

George,

Ok, here is what you need, first go to:
http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/3.5.4.2-test/rc2/

And download either the OPIE or the GPE install kit (it depends on which GUI
you like better). Most folks (myself included) use the OPIE kit.

Here is the url to the installation instructions:
http://wiki.openzaurus.org/Poodle/Install

Remember you'll need to untar and uncompress the file you just downloaded.
If you have a Unix based operating system, i.e. Mac OS X, you should be able
to just double click it and it will uncompress and untar itself in place.
Otherwise, you'll need to download a utility to uncompress and untar the
file.

Hope this helps,

Robert

If I upgrade in this way, what is the lastest kernel version? 2.6 series?

I think your method should be what I am looking for, but I can not find any
document from Zaurus web site at Sharp (they have a downloadable CD, but
almost contains nothing, :-)). Could you refer some upgrade document please?
for example, where/what to download and how to reload the new kernel.
Thanks.

I have worked with Zaurus for a couple of months but I have never did such
level of upgrade (any ROM upgrade) before.

George

George,

Not sure if someone else has already sent this to you, but I basically just
did the ROM upgrade like you normally do, i.e. I took the latest OZ 3.5.4.2
rc 2 I believe, and loaded it over top of my old 2.4 kernel. It overwrote
the kernel and worked. You don't need to do anything special that I am
aware of. Just be aware that you could lose some settings (and possibly
data, not sure).

Hope this helps.

Robert

Hello everyone,

I have seached into Open Zaurus web site for some time, but can not still
find a complete tutorial for a beginner about how to upgrade Linux kernel
from 2.4 (default manufecture) to 2.6.

I do not want to do any advanced settings, default ones for Kernel are ok.

Any reference documents? Sorry for this stupid question.

thanks in advance,
George
