DateBk a deal-breaker for iPhone/iPad migration

Hi all.

I had a very fascinating discussion with a friend of mine.   
Unfortunately as an iCal/iPhoneOS loyal, he just couldn't grasp why  
DateBk6 is so much more robust versatile than the Apple approach.  In  
so doing, he thought that transferring DateBk6 data was just a simple  
matter of just cutting & pasting the data that would link entries  
together.  How naive was that?!  Anyway, in true salesman and Apple  
devotee fashion, he was trying to sell me on how although (yes,  
another naive statement) the DateBk6 market is slim to minimal, it  
doesn't mandate that Apple change its philosophies so as a DateBk or  
PimliCal can have access to PIM data where the iPhone is involved.   
It just seems that Apple's gonna stranglehold YOUR OWN PIM data with  
the way they want it handled because, although it's your data, an  
iPhone/iPad is involved.  So, to them and to my friend, it seems  
reasonable that Apple has say on what to do with your data.

Anyway, like I said, my friend didn't realise that the Pimlico/ 
DateBk6/PimliCal client/user base is substantial and because he  
thinks we are a small minority, Apple doesn't need to adjust so as to  
allow PimliCal or DateBk to be developed for iPhoneOS

We then got into a discussion on even though PalmOS is gone, at least  
there's 'Classic' by MotionApps.  I then told him that, because of  
that and, for us, PalmOS lives on and I can STILL run DateBk6 on a  
Pre, that iPad option is not sounding any better than a Pre or, at  
most extreme, a reconditioned Palm T|X should my old one become  
unusable.

Have i missed something here that I should have explained to him?   
Further, isn't our DateBk6, PimliCal, Pimlico Software client/user  
base much more substantial than my friend seems to think?
