Hello,

I have had a lot of work these last months, but I'm still thinking about
hardware upgrades!

* Memory (64 Mb x2) has been doubled without any problem. WinCE can't use more
than 64 Mb, so it has to use a ramdisk for the remaining space. Only problem:
the kernel doesn't see more than 64M, I think this is due to command line
parameters. However the bootloader says the following about occupied memory,
which suggests me it hasn't found the 128M:

Siemens Switzerland Bootloader V2.5.3 10.06.2003
Running @206Mhz Processor ID 0x6901b118
Press ESC for monitor
Occupied Memory: [0x00004000-0x00008000],[0x00008014-0x0007500c]
Flash Id 0x00000018 at virt adr 0x05000000 Size 0x01000000
No 32Bit Flash detected 0x00000000
FlashImage Checksum 0x05040014-0x05059f11=0x8912ac03 Bootloader Image OK
Fabdata Flash @0x05059f18 Ram @0x00021f18 FABDATA: S842-KJULC
MQ200 - Revision ID=2 ...
Initialise PCMCIA Interface... done.
Codec UCB1200 ID:0x1005 Ver.5 Dev.0 Suppl.1 IO 0x00000000

* The battery is next - according to
http://palmtopmagazin.de/board/tablett/173955.php3?subaction=list
and http://palmtopmagazin.de/board/tablett/249731.php3?subaction=list it should
be quite easy.

* I am now working on flashrom replacement - hell if the bootloader can't be
fixed, the flash chip could be replaced by a bigger one :-) The simpad uses a
couple of RC28F128J3A-150 (RC = 64-Ball Easy BGA, 28F = intel, 128 = 128 MB ie
16 Mb, J3 = strataflash serie, A = 25 µm, 3 = 3V, 150 = 150 ns) while
RC28F256J3C-125 is now available...

However both the process technology (18 µm) and the access speed are different.
so maybe another chip would be required. I've been told STM makes J3
compatible chips- the M58LW serie, but unfortunately only the M58LW128 is
available (why oh why). Migration to Intel K3
(http://www.intel.com/design/flcomp/applnots/292280.htm) is not possible because
of hardware changes if I understood correctly.

Maybe the bootloader would need some tweaking but it should be
possible to update the flash too. Anyone knows where I could purchase some ?

* I still can't find a bluetooth antenna and a connector to test the bluetooth
chip. I wish I had them or knew a place where I could order them...

Bien a vous - Best regards,
Guylhem P. Aznar
