Interfacing a device with an autamat via can protocole

Dear Mrs! We are developing a device that has to communicate with an automat using can protocol, if anyone can tell what are the modalities that we should reconsider to make our program.Are there any specific frames that we should communicate with the automat? should we implement a library in the automat to establish a link with our device?...
