Yes, exactly! The lack of a gui is a benefit, it's the outdatedness
that should be address. That's why I said, "I've used irrecord in the
past both successfully and unsuccessfully. I don't know what's wrong
with it but perhaps the better option is to fix whatever is ailing it
because a command-line only config generator is certainly a useful
tool to have for a lot of people."

I'm guessing I don't have the hardware since I don't know how to do
that. Do you know of any inexpensive options similar to how building a
homebrew serial ir is cheap?

If true, that's not surprising. It seems a lot of stuff was planned
(years ago) but never materialized. I'm thankful there's a couple of
you guys with the necessary knowledge keeping it alive!
