Dear Wolf - In reality, the sockets SIMM/DIMM (generic), have usually a
maximum of TEN (or less!)insertions/extractions, before they become
un-reliable. You indicate that you have been at for "the last two years".
My guess is that you just wore the socket board out (or whatever you are
using) to interface to your DSTINIm400 / DSTINIS400 (that you probably
scrounged, and have seen some prior use). Replace the socket.

The "market" for end-users is typically in PC mobos, where you install one
or two DIMMs, put the cover on, and that's the end of daylight for a few
years inside the box. So, there is no need for "high reliability, zillion
insertion/extraction sockets". High reliability sockers ARE available (for
a price) from company's like Mill-Max, but its far cheaper to just replace
the Low-Rel" sockets up to the point that the the solder pads are shot (worn
out) on your PCBA (i.e., mobo).

Re: "What should I do with the DSTINIm400 / DSTINIS400 short of putting it
into the can?"

You can send it to me. I would be more than happy to provide my address
off-list, and I'll even pay shipping... Now how's THAT for a deal?!? 8D.

Seriously, just replace the socket...

Best regards, Kelly Smith

Subject: [TINI]DSTINIm400/DSTINIS400 experience very frustrating so far

I have been working with Tini390s from DalSemi for the last two years
and I am very pleased with the quality of the components and boards.
My experience with the the DSTINIm400 / DSTINIS400 on the other hand
has been very frustrating so far:

The latest firmware (1.12) is installed, I have it connected to a
10/100 mb switch at 100mb.
Here are the jumper settings:
J09: 2-3
J10: 1-2
J11: 2-3
all other jumpers are open.

After powering the device the LED DS1 and U5 are red, U54 is green, the
switch indicates an 100mb connection.
Pinging the device from a PC works for a couple hours sometimes even up
to two days.
Suddenly Pinging doesn't work anymore.
The LEDs are still the same: LED DS1 and U5 are red, U54 is green, the
switch indicates an 100mb connection.
Even U6 flashes sometimes.

Removing power (even for a couple minutes) doesn't make it work again -
only re-seating the socket helps.
Yesterday I found out that pressing hard on light/beige plastic
connector also makes it respond - as long as the pressure remains
applied.
Anyone else who can report a similar experience?
What should I do with the DSTINIm400 / DSTINIS400 short of putting it
into the can?
