I'm not aware of any that are commercially manufactured, but I have been in situations where early "check out" (test) of an SPI slave (i.e., before the master code was ready) was desired. An RS232-to-SPI converter enables such a test to be performed. You can make one with a small, single-chip PIC microcontroller that has both a serial port and an SPI port, and a minimalist bit of software. This took an afternoon to build, and a day or so to program, in my case. Use a DIP switch to configure the SPI parameters, or use a special escape sequence to do so. I used a serial line BREAK condition to escape a command byte. All other bytes (not following a break) were passed through transparently.
