AIGA Experience Design folks may be familiar with the Designing Interactive Systems conferences, and with the host organisation, ACM SIGCHI, which collaborates with AIGA on the Designing for User Experiences (DUX) conferences. The announcement of the Designing Interactive Systems 2004 (DIS2004) conference, on the theme of 'Across the Spectrum', follows. Nico Macdonald ========================================================= DESIGNING INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS - DIS2004 Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA 1-4 August 2004 http://www.sigchi.org/DIS2004/ --------------------------------------------------------- The theme of DIS2004 is 'Across the Spectrum'. We seek to encompass the diverse and simultaneously inclusive nature of the discipline of interaction design. We are addressing the themes of: inter-disciplinarity, the relationships between social and work processes, the nature of information, aesthetics and emotion, as well as presenting new paradigms of interaction. With this approach we hope to create an arena for debate and reflection on the future of the discipline of interaction design. We have been very pleased with both the amount and quality of the submissions to DIS2004. We accepted 30 full papers and design cases from over 160 submissions. David Benyon and Paul Moody, DIS2004 co-chairs Daniel Gruen and Irene McAra-McWilliam, DIS2004 program chairs ========================================================= Highlights: --------------------------------------------------------- We expect the program for DIS2004 will be both stimulating for and challenging to practitioners, researchers, academics and students, whether they are novices or experts. Highlights include: Keynotes from William J Mitchell, MIT Media Lab, and Gillian Crampton Smith, Interaction Design Institute, Ivrea, Italy - Eight paper sessions on themes ranging from 'Tangible UIs' to 'Reflection, Reaction and Design,' and from 'New Frontiers in Ubicomp' to 'Aesthetics, Ephemerality and Experience.' - Panels include: 'Design for Hackability' 'Producing The Future' 'Beyond Human Centered Design' 'Science Friction: Fashion and Interaction' - A half day Design Open House will offer tours of local academic and industrial research labs as well as design studios in the Cambridge area. ========================================================= Registration costs: --------------------------------------------------------- ACM/British HCI Group member Early $715 | Late $775 - Non-Member Early $825 | Late $875 - Full-time student Early $300 | Late $300 ========================================================= Key registration dates: --------------------------------------------------------- For early registration rates Sunday 27 June 2004 - Last date to advance register Sunday 18 July 2004 - Advance registration is closed 19 July-01 August 2004 - Onsite registration begins Sunday 01 August 2004 ========================================================= Contacts: --------------------------------------------------------- Conference chairs: mailto:[email protected] - General and web site related: mailto:[email protected] - DIS2004 NEWS mailing list: mailto:[email protected]?body=subscribe%20DIS2004-NEWS ------------------------ Yahoo!
