After that it would be useful to examine different mathematical systems that are based on relations of various types, structures like groups, rings, fields, vector spaces, etc. Mathematics is positively rife with triadic relations — every so-called “binary operation” is in fact a triadic relation — and semioticians could learn a lot about keeping Cerberus well-sopped and at bay by studying the way mathematicians handle the complexity of those triadic relations that give them their own daily bread. But approaching this topic with any coherence will depends on settling some of the questions that arose in the discussion with Helmut, as to what they are, exactly, we are seeking to classify when we turn to classifying relations.
