I will try "ctrl - shift -space" to see whether that works. However,

uses this status window, Java still does not look good. We probably need

The status window is displayed, but with some text as "No IM connected"

not to show status window when it gets "No IM connected" text from the 
server. Is there a way to tell there is "no im connected" rather than
