Just to answer one question : The license for the code is always the one
that was set when you obtained the code.. So code from 10 years ago with
GPL license does not change if the project decided to use a different
license. If Gerald would change the license to apache on that code from
10 years ago, the code after that change will be apache, the code before
that change is still GPL..

Another note afaik it was decided not to move to apache license after
all (thought I read a message a week ago or something by Gerald about
that)
