Note that we do not yet support the GTK L&F (which is why it is not 
turned on by default on Unix/Gnome platforms).

While we're still hoping that the GTK UI delegate for JFileChooser will 
someday look like the real thing, you might appreciate the 
quickfilechooser module available e.g. from nbextras.org. Doesn't look 
like either but is at least KB-friendly (inspired by Emacs). Using 
java.awt.FileDialog is not always an option as we need operations only 
available in JFileChooser, such as embedding custom components.

There is such a module in contrib.netbeans.org. I'm not sure if binary 
builds are conveniently available somewhere. Probably it ought to be 
reevaluated, polished, and published on nbextras.
