Hello Georges, Here's what fixed my issue. Before I started the rmiregistry, I found it necessary to set the environment variable (is that the right terminology?) for CLASSPATH. On my Windows XP Laptop, now, I start a new DOS window. Then in it, I enter... > set CLASSPATH=distribution because the classes I generated both by javac and rmic reside there. Then I > start rmiregistry I had a problem similar to yours, as the "Hello World" tutorial did not state the CLASSPATH has to be set in order to run the registry. Evidentally it needs to know where your classes reside. And thanks to the three of you who kindly responded to my problem !
