you're very right. remember that in any flame war which you're involved in, 
you're one of the proverbial "two people" necessary to keep it going. =(

i think flame wars stink, regardless for whose ammusement they are for.

wrong. if someone comes into your house and pees on the carpet, they probably 
will be shown the door pretty quickly. this doesn't mean you don't want 
anyone coming over, just that you're not overly fond of people who piss on 
your rug. 

fortunately, most people have the good sense not to urinate on other people's 
floors. _un_fortunately, not everyone does.

it isn't about "getting in the way", it's about whether someone's primary 
influence is as a disturber or the peace or a promoter of the effort.

there are much appreciated KDE developers who at times "get in the way". some 
even have had what amounts to a temper tantrum. i myself have thrown a few 
poorly chosen, angry words about before that i've felt bad about afterwards. 
but such slips of character are usually not the defining characteristics of 
the person's involvement in the project. more often it's just a bad day or 
not enough caffiene/tea/fresh air/sex/whatever...

most new people are not much (if any) trouble and what they bring to the 
community and the project usually _far_ outweighs any downsides they bring 
with them. this is not only an abstract observation, it's how most newcomers 
are actually treated within KDE...

if this were not true, i could name several developers currently involved in 
KDE who would've been shown the door a long time ago.
