We do: 'Software Compilation'

I'm not trying to be flippant - if we need to refer to all the stuff we put out 
on a release day with one phrase then that's it.

However, we prefer to emphasise the different product groups with separate 
announcements for the major releases. End users choose to use a KDE workspace 
(or not), they choose to use some of our Applications (or not), they choose to 
use both one of our workspaces and our applications (or not). Developers 
choose to use our Platform in their applications (or not). At the moment we 
release everything together on one day, but the reasons for that are 
promotional (one big event to push) and convenience for packagers etc. There's 
no fundamental reason why the workspaces and applications have to release 
together. Similarly, distros could decide to provide updates for the Platform 
and Apps but not the Workspaces.

It's been said before, but the main aim is to emphasise the above - that you 
don't need to take the Software Compilation as a whole (no one uses it all 
anyway, many distros don't install it all by default) but can make choices 
about which bits work for you.

Yeah, eventually people copy us - particularly as many people just rewrite our 
announcements. This is why we need to be consistent and get it right.
