Sorry, meant to reply to this earlier too - got distracted :-) On Thursday 04 November 2010 02:02:36 Vivek Prakash wrote: > Here's an idea: > > If we want to get the branding message across clearly, I think it will need > a lot of repeating, at the risk of a little extra length and being > potentially boring. +1 > So in your suggested boilerplate text, I'd add > something like what I've done below (lifted almost directly from > http://community.kde.org/Promo/Branding/Map and the developer page linked > below). Yeah, we do have a 'what is KDE' text in the announcements themselves [1], but it definitely needs some work (doesn't mention Plasma Desktop, Plasma Netbook or the Platform at all...). I'd like to make what you wrote a little shorter, but it is definitely the right direction > (ps. I have a reference to "compilation" in there - I don't like it, but I > have it in there since some people absorbed a message somewhere that "KDE > does software compilations" and might be confused if the word doesn't even > appear anywhere...) I think it's alright. The SC exists and has a purpose, we don't need to eradicate all use of it and certainly not of 'compilation'. It just had too much prominence before. We also need to work on the Dev Platform vs Platform inconsistency/confusion. Aaron (I think) gave a summary of the difference in a thread a while back, which we'll have to look for (basically iirc, the Platform is the libraries etc that you need to run any KDE app (including a workspace). The Dev Platform includes things like IDEs etc). Based on that, the www page on the Dev Platform is misleading and should be rewritten or renamed 'Platform'. I'm not really happy about having the two terms at all. More to discuss...
