Adding my support to comments from Markus (further discussions here are of marginal value) and Vivek (repeat the message). It will require repeating until we're sick of it, which will happen around the same time that it finally sinks in for many others...at the risk of irritating or boring others. Also second Troy's motion - Stu, you are the King, not only right on with the rewrite, but also cuz you're King and you said so. B^). There's one other consideration though that is important to this issue...this mailing list is the hub of promotional activities for KDE. Branding and other promotion are important to overall KDE effort. I think that we need to "sell" the value of communicating accurately about the "product", and to invite people to use kde-promo to hone communication rather than trying to steep them as much as we have been. KDE-promo is a service to other members of the KDE community. In order for this to be effective, the response must be timely. It has been a bit of a struggle previously for this group to fine tune messages as the concepts were novel and still in flux. This has become easier with more practice. Nonetheless, there needs to be some sort of customer service promise/expectation about turnaround time. Perhaps the sales pitch could include some defined/suggested lead time. We also need to accept that improvements and processes will come with practice. We seem to be beyond bikeshedding and the need for immediate perfection. (Only the King is perfect B^O !) Now there's an opportunity to develop a systematic approach to messaging. Different subject: From Markus - Do we have official abbreviations like KPW (KDE Plasma Workspaces)? I kinda recall that the ultimate shortened version was simply "Plasma". I can't find the mailing list thread, but it seems like something I read from aseigo or Justin. As long as the context is recognizably KDE, Plasma is sufficient. Anyone who doesn't understand can just ask The Google.
