I forgot another point. IMO there is a difference between sticking to the code 
of the last KDE3 release as e.g. the packager at openSUSE does and trying to 
change major parts of KDE3, e.g. dcop -> dbus, fiddling with kwin etc. or even 
porting KDE3 to Qt4 as Trinity does. I'm not sure whether one is better than 
the other but the former is certainly less vulnerable to introducing 
regressions and new bugs or breaking working code.

This adds to the "quality" that is promoted, especially if the intention is to 
target "customers" that are allegedly aiming at stability and security.

Trinity is different than the last KDE3 release and it is different to kdepim 
3.5 maintained by some company that has a lot of competence in that area. 
Those are three separate "projects" and I doubt that Trinity is the best in 
terms of quality, security or stability.
