K3B freezing on write (Kubuntu 7.10)

Hi there!

I am using Kubuntu 7.10 live dvd and the included K3B version to make a backup of some file before re/installing the operation system. The whole process was going well, i managed to get 3 of 5 dvd burned.

When i changed the language settings to be able to use a german keyboard layout and chat, while waiting for dvd 3 to finish, K3B crashed and i had to terminate it.
Since this point K3B freezes whenever i start burning a dvd. I can add files, select settings and when i hit burn nothing happens and it freezes. After i terminate it, i cannot even start other applications like console.

I did reestart the pc, even took it off power for some minutes and rebooted, which should delete all traces of the live dvd? The Problem still remains.

AthlonXP3200, Benq1640 dvd/burner, 80GB harddrive.

Any ideas how to fix this?
