Not the file extension, but the format the data is stored in those 
files. Most likely, strigi does not know how to read Akregator's .mk4 
files and therefore strigi cannot index the contents of those files.

I think there are plans for changing the file format so that strigi 
would be able to index those. But this will happen after KDE SC 4.5.
