apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev

Special only means that wxWidgets gets configured with --enable-display
for example or that stc and xrc gets build...

An other solution for your problem could be that /usr/local<your
wxWidgets libs> is not in your LD_LIBRARY path.
Maybe you should do ./configure with --prefix=/usr (which is the normal
Debian way...)
