USB to serial cables are for older phones with an RS-232 serial data port, to adapt them to a USB port on your computer. Those phones can be directly connected to a serial or COM port with a serial cable made for the specific phone. Newer phones have a USB port for direct connection to a computer's USB port, though most of them use a proprietary connector on the phone. Some phones used a standard mini-B USB connector and since 2007 have used a micro-B connector, even on phones that have plenty of room for a mini-B. LG has a couple of driver downloads that work for almost all their phones. Get the LG USB Modem driver download from the LG site. Some phones using a micro-B connector already come with a data cable, plugged into an AC adapter with a USB A port for power.
