If your Mac does not recognize your phone when you plug the data cable into a USB port, try another port or another Mac. My iMac G5 with OSX 10.4.11 does not recognize the phone, so I cannot configure another network configuration for USB as a modem port for the phone. Both my MacBook Pros running OSX 10.6.3 recognize my LG VX8500 when I plug in the data cable, and I am able to configure the port. I can connect to the Internet, but my phone is not able to tether using my cellular service. Bitpim recognizes the phone on both my MPB even when the phone modem is not connected to the Internet.
