Major Problem with Bugziill 4.4.6

We have corruption on the windows server where Bugzilla exists. Users are unable to login and Windows behaves badly. We are running MYSql on that machine as well. Instead of trying to repair the old machine my thoughts are to create a new bugzilla instance on a windows 2012 R2 server and install 5.0.4 and then migrate the database. My assumption is that it may NOT be this easy as the database may have to have changes made to it by the upgrade. Additionally no one exists in the company that has the password for the Mysql admin. Am I am completely lost here or is there hope? Can someone help please?
