MP4 Playback Problem in Linux

I built the server and client for linux (SYSTEM_ID=linux-2.6-glibc23-i686)
using the SERVER_11_1 and hxclient_1_5_0_cayenne branches respectively.
Everything went smoothly except for some build errors for which I found
solutions in the forums, and some HX_ASSERT errors which I ended up
commenting out just to get things working. My problem is the following: I
cant stream MP4 files although I built the corresponding file format plugin
for the server and the client has the needed renderers. That is, the
connection is established, the client obtains the stream information from
the server (RTSP messaging phase), a window (/site) is opened but no
playback takes place (no video or audio, just a black window). I find this
weird because I am able to stream MP3 files normally. What could be the
problem here?
