RE: Pair Programming

A red herring to you it may be.

Fact of the matter is that we even have to schedule our meetings to take
place between 10h00 am (possible earliest) and 15h00 pm (possible latest) to
fit with the many variations in working hours that exist today.

Teleworking which I expect to start in 2 to 3 years time is going to make
things more difficult to arrange.

Does XP allow for teleworking arrangements?

If pairing is so trivial, why don't we get more people to carpool?  The
benefits of carpooling are non-trivial and still we find so few people are
doing it.

The answer I expected was "pairing is done on a first come, first serve
basis" but that doesn't seem to be the case then.

In my environment I see also quite an amount of "it has been a late night
out, I am starting later tomorrow" and "oops, my son/daughter is ill, I'll
only come half a day" and if pairing is not flexible enough to support that,
then I don't know how to propose it.

So the make the question more complete:
- is the pairing a 100% activity
- are there any activities not done in pairs so we can shift attention in
case half of the pair isn't there

I'm just trying to understand.

Another question I have is whether pairing always works.  There are a few
people in my place I'd never want to pair up with just because we have very
different attitudes/characters.  Does this play or does this fade away in XP
Teams?
