I've been thinking about this some more, and I think Sony are a good example of what can be done with product design. Sony produce new hardware products in almost the same way software is designed and developed. I've heard stories that Sony's product development team can turn an idea into a new product on the shelves in a week. I don't know how true this is, but if they can do it that quickly, it's because they make incremental enhancements to a highly modular design, not sweeping big changes. They will sell a small number in markets like Akihabara, with phenomenal stock turnover in the shops, and if a product is a hit, then they will launch it nationwide or worldwide. --- In [email protected], "Bill Walton" <bill.walton@j...> wrote: > Does anyone know of any writings that specifically address the differences (particularly with respect to ability to predict / define in advance what "done" will be, process improvement, etc.) between Product Manufacturing vs. Product Design / Development? > > Thanks, > Bill To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: [email protected] Your use of Yahoo!
