Position Summary:=0D
The CERT® Program is part of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI)=
, a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon =0D
University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. CERT engages in cutting-edge rese=
arch and development, helps organizations and individuals protect =0D
their systems, and provides robust training and education programs. Our f=
ocus is on ensuring that software developers, internet security experts, =
network and system administrators, and others are able to resist, recogni=
ze, and recover from attacks on networked systems.=0D
=0D
As a member of the Engineering Team in the CERT Network Situational Aware=
ness group, the candidate selected for this position will participate in =
efforts to develop and deploy software tools for =0D
monitoring large-scale computer networks.  The selected candidate will pa=
rticipate and support the development of software tools by developing =0D
system level packaging and tests.  The selected candidate must be capable=
 of operating specialized networking equipment and hardware.  The selecte=
d candidate will work independently to create an automated infrastructure=
 for operating and testing the network analysis tool system.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training:=0D
BS in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a =
related quantitative field of study with 2 years experience.=0D

Experience:=0D
Applicable experience in the design and implementation of complex testing=
 and networking, including experience in:=0D
- Scripting in Python, Perl or equivalent scripting environment=0D
- Familiarity with system automation=0D
- Web development, including database interfacing=0D
- System administration in Unix and Windows=0D
- Experience with TCP/IP networking protocols and implementation details.=
=0D
=0D
Skills/Abilities:=0D
- Experience with development tools such as: gcc, gdb, automake, autoconf=
 and cvs=0D
- Understanding of carrier level communications=0D
- Understanding of basic computer systems, and network, database and appl=
ication security issues=0D
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills=0D
- Excellent reasoning and problem-solving skills=0D
- Ability to work effectively without close supervision=0D
- Ability to attend customer meetings and respond to customer requirement=
s=0D

Sedentary in an office setting with some mobility, i.e., able to travel t=
o various locations within the SEI and CMU community as well as travel to=
 customer sites.=0D
