 Indeed, the original version of passwordsafe did not have any concept of
database version.
Also, when designing v2, I took the conservative approach of trying to keep
backwards compatibility, at least so that a user opening a new database with
an old application would have some indication of what happened. In
retrospect, perhaps this was too conservative, and I should have just
changed the suffix of the database...

However, the current database format *does* have a version string in the
database. At least I got *that* right.
