I friend of mine recently got a refurbished Dell (from Dell) which is a 1.3GHz
Centrino, roughly equivalent in speed to a 2.6MHz P4 but with better battery
life and built-in 802.11b. With a 40GB drive and (I think) 256MB memory he paid
under $1100. Add in more memory and you're still pretty cheap. I paid about
$80 for a 512MB expansion on my laptop, though I think memory prices have gone
up again since June when I bought my memory.

My similar Centrino 1.3MHz with 15" screen has about a 5 hour battery life.
Things sure have come a long way in laptops.
