A couple of items I've seen fly past in the last week or so
from the Edinburgh lads; FYI.

One of them writes:

Has anyone taken a look at the work being done by Globus?
(http://www.globus.org). This is a "grid" project.

   [snip -will]

   * They've got a resource description language, and are
using LDAP to distribute machine configuration
information via a directory service they call MDS

Our own Paul Anderson (also an "Edinburgh lad" :-) passed on
some info about a Red Hat thing called "Alchemist":

Red Hat 7.1 beta contains something called alchemist. It appears in
   the release notes as:

     o New Apache Configuration Tool:

         - Configured via the Alchemist Data Library, a flexible
           backend/GUI combination named apacheconf.
         - Helps manage virtual hosts in an intelligent fashion

     o New BIND Configuration Tool:

         - Configured via the Alchemist Data Library, a flexible
           backend/GUI combination named bindconf.

     o New Printing Configuration Tool:

         - Filters are based on David Parson's magicfilter, the foomatic
system, and the Linux Printing Database
           (http://linuxprinting.org).
         - Supports over 500 printers
         - Configured via the Alchemist Data Library, a flexible
           backend/GUI combination named printconf

If anyone sinks their teeth into either of those, or related
stuff, we wouldn't complain about a summary here on ark-dev...
