I think usually a reboot works (shutdown -r now), I'm not sure if that's 
what you mean by a software reboot or not. Sometimes the modems get 
stuck when receiving a long color fax and something goes wrong, and I'd 
like to prevent needing the user to manually intervene so that fax 
answering continues to work.

To reload the modules would you use modprobe or something else? (OS is 
Debian)
