OK, I've finally got it.  I hadn't realized that the first LaTeX run would =
produce a 
separate *.aux file for each bibliography.  Many people have told me that I=
 need to 
bibtex each ".bbl" file, which didn't make any sense to me at all, seeing t=
hat the .bbl 
files are produced by BIBTeX, and not run through it.

The next task will be to write a shell script (using "make", I'm advised), =
to do this all 
in a single pass.
