Dear Dominik,
I think I must not have made myself clear. The oxford default is "edited by", but I
need to change it to "ed." I am writing in English. Can I do that with the commands
you have suggested? e.g.
\AddTo\bibs<english>{\def\edbyname{editedby}}
Presumably I could create a "transbyname" just as easily, but I'm a little shaky any
time plain TeX commands like \def come into the game.
