\edbyname

I'm trying to use the command \edbyname, both in my bibliography (in
@titleaddon fields) and in footnotes that are not citations. I use,
among other things, oxford=true with jurabib.

When I type "\edbyname", the output is "edited by". When I try
\renewcommand{\edbyname}{ed.\ }, however, i get an error message saying:

! LaTeX Error: \edbyname undefined.

Where do I need to change this to get it to work? The error message is
obviously wrong, since \edbyname has a previous definition.

While I'm asking, how can I get the oxford option to use (ed.) and
(eds) instead of (editor) and (editors)?

Thanks,

Jesse Billett
