We are trying to debug this issue: the /pub tree from the FTP archive
at Utah is mapped to the Web tree by an Apache configuration file
redirect.  

After an upgrade of the Web server recently, we find that the pub tree
seen from a Web browser as "https://math.utah.edu/pub/" comes and
goes, with no obvious error reports in Web logs.  However, we haven't
seen this with FTP client access.

The issue for many users is that recent major browser releases have
dropped support for "ftp://" connections entirely.

We continue to support HTTP, FTP, and RSYNC access: I just got
this report from an overseas client:

% rsync rsync://rsync.math.utah.edu/
...
historic   archive of past TeX distributions and files [huge: > 150GB]
...

>> ftp://ftp.tug.org/

That was shutdown a few days ago, but Karl Berry may respond to the
report.
