I doubt that it is the source of the problem. Compile your exampleMsc.tex on the command line with xelatex --no-pdf exampleMsc.tex This should give you a exampleMsc.xdv. Then run xdvipdfmx -vv exampleMsc.xdv Perhaps this gives more informations about the source of the problem.
