On windows [ansinew] is normally the better choice.

Well this contains an information you didn't provided yet: You are
not using the default cm/ec-fonts.

And this is also somethig that you didn't mention: A part of your
system is on a network drive. I have *no* idea if this can lead to
troubles.

If pdflatex fails and assuming that is due to a font problem and not
to the pst-node package: Concentrate at first on pdflatex. Ignore
YAP/dvips etc. pdflatex is 1 application and so much easier to
handle.

Well this sounds a bit as if your network drive is problem.
