This sounds a bit curious. I hope it means that you added
"K:\localtexmf" as a tex root.

Well I can confirm that map files which resides directly in
fonts/map are not found. But I don't have any problems with map
files in fonts/map/dvips.   

(miktex 2.9, win xp, single user installation).
