Re: latex on command prompt?

I am not quite sure what GUI you have discovered, but that aside, you 
can still run latex on the command line: "latex mytext" should do the trick.

If this doesn't work for you, your command prompt window may not yet 
have picked up the change to the PATH environment variable during 
installation. You could try log out of your Windows session and in again.
