Re: math symbols changed in my plot

report bugs effectively.  If you want free help you have to make it as easy
as possible for someone else to reproduce your problem by a) posting a
minimal example (e.g., a small document with one figure containing just the
2 symbols), b) describing exactly how the figure was generated, and c)
describing exactly how you created the final PDF.

How did you create the figures?   What format are they (EPS, PDF, ...?).
You should ask in the appropriate forum for the program used to create
figures for guidance on creating figures suitable for use with TeX.

Do you use LaTeX?  If so is it pdflatex, xelatex, or lualatex.  Do you
generate PDF "directly" or do you use dvi-->ps-->pdf or some other steps?

For LaTeX documents, it is useful to add \listfiles to the source document
and include the log in your posting and links to the figure and the final
PDF document.

The problem you describe can have many causes, but one reliable way to
prevent such problems is to replace fonts with outline paths in the
figures.   This can be done using ghostscript (free software).
