Re: Converting rtf to LaTex and back from command-line

If LyX converts to and from Word then that is new to me.

Also, I can imagine that being able to hear the layout spoken out to you and being able to type in what the structure of the document should be is part of the point for a blind person, so any tool that converts this information to purely visible clues is not an aid in this regard. LyX is great, if you have vision.

It is a long time ago since I tried a Word-to-LaTeX converter, but these tend to generate extra code in an attempt to make the output resemple the input as much as possible, adding complexity that I suppose would be a great disadvantage for blind people, not the least because there is no screen reader that does syntax highlighting. Do try these tools, but it may well be the most productive to just cut and paste the text into an text editor and turn it into a LaTeX document by hand.

Regarding backwards conversion: it may be easier and more effective to convert your editor to LaTeX than to convert your documents to Word :-) And you only need to do it once! Really, it will improve his professionalism and the printed output. And he would not be alone, there are editors that accept LaTeX exclusively…
