Hi, MiKTeX users and/or helpers,

I have been using Miktex 2.9 on my Windows xp system. As text editor I
have WinTex xp (for example at http://www.bestshareware.net/download/wintexxp.htm)
which will not run with Windows 7 or 8.1.
WinTex includes an editor plus a possibility to call up all the Latex programs
like pdfLatex, Bibtex, Makeindex etc. I can even call up Wordpad to read the logfile from inside Wintex.
In addition, I could define macros that would expand to larger commands, for example inserting
\ite + a blank would expand to \begin{itemize} \item \end{itemize}.

I would like to run Miktex on Windows 7 and 8.1 in the future, and sometimes on my old PC with Windows xp.
So, I am very much interested in the portable edition from http://miktex.org/portable, which includes TexWorks as editor.

I looked through all available TexWorks manuals on the internet, but I cannot find any hint if I will be able to configure
TexWorks and include all my favourite programs + if I can configure expandable macros like described above.

Does anyone have enough experience with TexWorks to tell me if those options were possible or can anyone recommend a
different LaTex editor? I will keep using Miktex on Windows 7 and 8.1

Thanks for any advice.

Angelika
