Installation problem of mikTeX 2.9

I had just written the the miktex users list:

Thanks a lot, Ulrike! I was just too ignorant to know that these
.exe files do exactly what is given in the Win 7 links which I had
missed in the Win 7 desk top.

Now I can begin sleuthing for the problems I still have with the
sheet music setting programs. A wild hunch is that
etex doesn't operate properly in pmxab.exe even though mikTeX
provides etex by default these days.
