just FYI - for MacCvs, I created yet another two pipes for stdout and 
stderr and redirect them to the console window inside MacCvs.
I found that the cvsgui_protocol already had support for remembering 
those additional two pipes, so all I had to do was open them, dup2 them 
in the child process and close them when done...
