MacCvs does have the cvs binary and the gui separated, but the cvsgui 
tool is included in the MacCvs application package (an application 
package is just a folder hierarchy that is interpreted as an 
application - basically a structured file), so it doesn't need a 
separate installation.
Generally, on the Mac, most applications that don't need to install 
additional files in special locations come as standalone application 
packages that can be drag-copied to the hard disk without an installer. 
(There is nothing an installer would do on top of that).

Of course, theoretically, you could install your own copy of a 
cvsgui-protocol savvy cvs tool in some other location and make MacCvs 
use it, but since so far, there was only one tool that supported the 
cvsgui protocol, this issue was moot...

Anyway, I'd like to give cvsnt a shot anyway. As I said before, maybe 
for the first round as a choice between cvsgui and cvsnt, but 
eventually, I'd like to migrate to cvsnt and give up cvsgui 
completely...
