Hi Bob, > I am running XP with 2G of memory, and I just > installed the CVSNT2.5.03.2151 from a cd included > in a book. I've never heard of CVSNT being put on a CD for a book - I'd love to know which one? CVSNT 2.5.03.2151 is very old and also was not a very good release (lots of bugs), I recommend you upgrade to the laest 2.5.04 or the test release of 2.5.05 available on cvsnt.org > The instructions in the book told me to stop the > actions of the CVSNT Server and add a > c:/cvs_repository folder, and then turn things > back on. I am unable to start the CVSNT Lock Service. You have e-mailed the TortoiseCVS newsgroup, there is a separate mailing list for CVSNT - and since this question is about CVSNT it belongs there: http://www.cvsnt.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/cvsnt or news://news.cvsnt.org/support.cvsnt That is the old 'local' protocol which I've been threatening to disable for some time now. If I do move this further I'll probably start with removing all references to it from the documentation. You are clearly a newcomer - this is my quick guide for newcomers: 0) uninstall everything you've installed so far 1) install client from here (includes graphical and command line clients): http://march-hare.com/cvspro/#downcvsnt 2) install server from here: http://march-hare.com/cvspro/#downcvsnt 3) create server repository using control panel: CVSNT 4) make no other changes to CVSNT server control panel 5) start CVS Suite Studio 6) on left side 'open' your new server repository (if you can't see it STOP HERE) 7) drag folders to import from the right to the left and 'drop' on the new repository 8) right click folders on right to set permissions 9) drag folders to checkout from the left to the right and 'drop' on some 'new' folder 10) make changes to files on PC 11) right click PC files or folders to 'CVS->Commit' I think this is going to have to end up on the web site somewhere as a 'quick start' guide to 2.5.04...
