The TAG verb is described in the manual as "Create a tag or branch": http://cvsnt.org/manual/html/tag.html Therefore all the options to TAG still "Create a tag or branch". I think the command that you wanted to run was: cvs rtag -r existingtag newtag Eg: cvs rtag -r release1 release1-1 If you absolutely really needed to 'move' release1 to release 1-1 you could then use tortoise or the command line to 'checkout' relesae1-1 which would create a sandbox with ONLY the files you requested and then tag/move tag release1 to the currrent sandbox (cvs tag -F release1). However if you are trying to track releases then I recommend instead using promotion levels and changesets integrated to your defect tracking system (ie: 'promote' bug 1234 to 'test' then 'promote' to 'prod' and deploy using the deployment (checkout) trigger or release manager: http://march-hare.com/cvsnt/features/book/en.asp Of course if you would like to improve the documentation of the community edition of CVSNT or TortoiseCVS or improve the translation of TortoiseCVS dialogs then that is always welcome - please checkout the source code and make your changes and submit them back. Note: there is a separate mailing list for CVSNT: http://www.evscm.org/ Finally - I personally think TortoiseCVS is a terrific productivity tool for developers. However creating a software release is not a typical/everyday development task - it is anadministartive task. I do not recommend using any GUI for administrative tasks for the simple fact that if you do something wrong it is difficult to track what it was (no command history) - but also that the command line tools are generally a little clearer.
