Thanks for the reply. The 'Find' button at the bottom of the dialog wasn't visible for the first few annotations I called up, now it's always visible. Not sure exactly what caused it to appear and unfortunately couldn't reproduce the problem (using Windows 7).

Nothing about find in the context menu, and Ctr-F or F3 doesn't help either.

I'm using the latest version of TortoiseCVS (1.12.5).
Have you tried using the 'Find' button at the bottom of the dialog?
