Arthur, Thanks for this info, it helps me understand and debug. I uninstalled all of my Tortoise tools, thinking that since the others (SVN, Git, Hg) were working, it should free up enough slots for CVS. But no dice. I'm seeing CVS operations on explicitly selected files, but not the directory-level operations that are used all the time. Then I installed CVS Suite and used cvsdiag and found there were even more apps using context slots than I had realized. I don't necessarily want to remove all of them, but in many cases I would never use the menu operation(s) they I googled up a couple of apps that (supposedly) allow you to edit context menus and I will see if I can get things going that way. -- David E.
